Shapton Glass Stone HC 8000 Grit

The Shapton Glass Stone HC 8000 is a fine-grade finishing whetstone optimised for high carbon steel blades — including straight razors. Slightly softer than the HR series, the HC series releases abrasive more readily to deliver a finer, more polished finish on carbon steel edges.

Shapton produces two main glass stone series: HR (High Rockwell) and HC (High Carbon). While both deliver exceptional results, the HC series is specifically designed for high carbon steel blades — its slightly softer abrasive release produces a finer, more polished finish on carbon steel than the harder HR stones, making it the preferred choice for traditional straight razor honing.

Each stone is built around a 5mm tempered glass backing plate fused to a 5mm ceramic abrasive layer — consistent, flat and far longer-lasting than conventional water stones. The abrasives are uniformly graded, meaning the abrasive your blade encounters on the first pass is the same as the five hundredth. No soaking required.

How to Use: Splash the stone with water before use. Use after a coarser grit in the honing progression. Work the blade at a consistent angle in smooth, even strokes. Strop thoroughly before shaving.
