Merkur has been making safety razors in Solingen, Germany for over a century. The 47C was developed as a 3-piece alternative to the classic 38C, pairing the closed comb head found across Merkur's Classic range with a long brass handle finished in a decorative engine-turned pattern. The head is the reason the 47C works so well as a first razor: mild-medium aggression, an easy-to-find blade angle and a smooth, low-irritation shave that doesn't demand perfect technique.

The 102mm handle gives more to hold than the 34C, which suits larger hands and makes body shaving noticeably easier. At 87g the brass handle carries enough weight to let the razor do the work. Merkur's generous blade gap keeps lather flowing through the head and makes rinsing between strokes quick. The 3-piece construction comes fully apart for blade changes and cleaning.

How to Use: Unscrew the handle, place a double edge blade on the base plate, fit the top cap and tighten. Hold the razor at roughly 30 degrees to the skin and use short, light strokes with the grain. Rinse the head after every few strokes.
