The Shapton RockStar 1000 is a coarse-to-medium grade ceramic whetstone for the first phase of honing — setting the bevel, removing micro-chips and preparing the edge for finer grits. A 10mm solid ceramic stone with no glass backing, equivalent in quality to the GlassStone series.

The Shapton RockStar series is a 10mm solid ceramic sharpening stone — no glass backing plate, just a full-depth ceramic abrasive block of equivalent quality to the GlassStone range. The ceramic cutting media delivers the same uniform, consistent abrasive performance that Shapton is known for — powerful enough to handle hard steels, refined enough to produce a clean, even finish. No soaking required.

The 1000 grit is the starting point for most honing progressions — addressing micro-chips and corrosion and establishing the bevel before progressing through finer grits.

GlassStone vs RockStar: The RockStar series is a 10mm solid ceramic stone. The GlassStone series features a 5mm tempered glass plate laminated to a 5mm ceramic abrasive layer. Both deliver equivalent sharpening quality.

How to Use: Splash the stone with water before use. Work the blade at a consistent angle across the stone in smooth, even strokes. Progress to a finer grit once the bevel is established.
