BODY BASICS: MOISTURISERS AND BODY WASHES
Most men recoil in horror at the thought of a skin care regimen – and for good reason. The mental images of milk-and-honey-scented and far-too-oily moisturisers are enough to make most guys shut down the idea of using a face cream right off the bat. That’s exactly why some good people put in the hard work to make skin and body care products specifically for men. Interested? Read on!
Moisturisers
Here’s the thing: not everyone needs a moisturiser. Most people have skin that is kept naturally healthy by the oils produced by their body, and adding extra moisturiser will do little to improve the condition of their skin. However, those same people may work with their hands, or spend a lot of time in the sun, or swim every morning, or – you get the picture! Environmental factors, in addition to genetically dry skin, are a leading cause of dry or damaged skin, and that’s where a moisturiser comes in to its own.
For most men, a small amount of a daily face moisturiser is usually enough, as the residue left on the hands after application will take care of them too. Look for an oil-free or light moisturiser that will easily absorb into your skin and leave it feeling fresh, not slimy.
Face & Body Wash
With moisturising taken care of, it’s time to turn attention to that chemical-laden body wash sitting in your shower. Using a soap that’s light on glycerine and big on natural oils can do wonders for your skin, and help to clear up those bits of dry skin on your arm. You know the ones.
A dedicated face wash isn’t crucial if you’re already using a natural soap, but those with a beard or stubble will find benefits in using a face wash tailored for bearded men. The ingredients typically condition the hairs in a similar fashion to beard wash, leaving them feeling soft and smooth.
